2025-26 NBA Awards
The Play-In has concluded and the NBA Playoffs officially tip off today. This, of course, means it is time to hand out our NBA awards from 2025-26 season. We have watched this players since October and now is the time for them to get their recognition. We are going to follow the 65 game rule, which means of course some key players will be missing from this list. Comment which players you think deserve some more attention for the season they had!
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Shai followed up his historic MVP season from a year ago with a season just as dominant. He is the best scorer in the league and is the head of the snake for the best team in the league. If OKC repeats, and Shai gets another Finals MVP, then one of your favorite players will soon be replaced on the all time list.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Victor Wembanyama
This might be the easiest award decision you could ever make. And I think it might be that way for years.
6TH MAN OF THE YEAR
Keldon Johnson
Many thought the Spurs may take a step forward this year. They went ahead and took a massive leap that almost no one would have predicted. A 62 win season, and Johnson was a huge factor for them. Johnson was once a 20+ point per game scorer in the league and was once thought to maybe be the future in San Antonio. This year he accepted a role off the bench and excelled. On a nightly basis he knew what the team needed. If they need points, rebounding, defense, or just energy, Johnson was the guy to consistently give them that spark.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Cooper Flagg
This might be the tightest race of any award this season. We had two phenomenal rookie seasons between Flagg and Kneuppel. I do not think you can choose wrong here, but I simply think Flagg is the better player which is why he gets my vote. He was asked to do more with less. From playmaking, defense, to carrying to the scoring load, Flagg rose to the occasion. A teenager scoring 40, 50 points is so impressive, especially considering everything else he brings to the table. The last ten games of the season solidified his position as the best rookie in the NBA.
MOST IMPROVED PLAYER
Jalen Duren
My preseason pick for this award is the same as my end of the year selection. Duren solidified himself as a promising young center to a true all-star this year. Duren gave the #1 seed Pistons a true second option to pair with Cade, and when Cunningham was down, Duren was capable of carrying the offense. You can make an argument that the only centers that were better than Duren this season were Jokic and Wemby.
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
He led the league in clutch points, and delivered several memorable game winning moments.
COACH OF THE YEAR
J.B. Bickerstaff
The Pistons improved by 16 wins and looked dominant for much of the season. Looking at the strides the Pistons have made each year under Bickerstaff, it really is quite impressive.
