NBA Awards 2025
The 2024-25 NBA regular season has come to an end! The Play-In games start this week to kick off the postseason. This was an incredibly exciting season and I personally think the playoffs could be among the most entertaining we've seen in years. With the season concluding, here is how I would vote for each NBA Award. This was a very difficult selection due to many players not meeting the games minimum requirement, and just a surplus of talent in the league! Please comment any differences you would have for your personal selections!
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
- One of the greatest MVP races of all time. Jokic and Shai had some of the best seasons in the history of basketball. You can make a case for either. Ultimately it came down to which player contributed to more winning this season, giving Shai his first MVP award!
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
- Daniels set the record for most steals in a season and leads the league in deflections. Maybe the best POA defender in the league Daniels established himself as maybe the best perimeter defender in the league.
6TH MAN OF THE YEAR
- This one is a pretty easy award for me. Pritchard is ultra efficient and is a major contributor to Boston's success.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
- A tricky award this season as no one rookie truly separated themself. Wells got off to a fantastic start to the season but cooled off until his season was ended prematurely to injury. Wells was relatively efficient offensively for a rookie wing and was often tasked with guarding the opponents best player.
MOST IMPROVED PLAYER
- Zubac went from a good starter, to perhaps a top 5 center in the league. Not only did he improve dramatically on the offensive end of the court but Zubac is one of the best defensive big men in the league.
CLUTCH PLAYER OF THE YEAR
- Brunson led the league in clutch points this season.
COACH OF THE YEAR
- The Cavs had the second best record in the league and finished top of the East. Atkinson seems to have pushed all the right buttons for this roster to make them a serious contender.
FIRST TEAM ALL-NBA
- Shai, Tatum, Giannis, and Jokic are all locks. The last spot was difficult but ultimately I felt like Brunson was underrated this season as he finished 10th in PPG and 11th in APG
SECOND TEAM ALL-NBA
- Some love for the old heads! Curry may not be QUITE the player he was, but he still is one of the most dangerous players in the league. The job Harden did to not only keep the Clippers afloat without Kawhi but to make LA a legitimately good team is not talked about enough. Cade made the star leap this season and helped propel the young Pistons squad into the playoffs. Spida and Ant-Man both have legitimate 1st Team cases and are well deserving.
THIRD TEAM ALL-NBA
- Trae is the most underrated player in the association in my opinion. DG might be the best player on the 64 win Cavalier team. LeBron continues to beat Father Time. JJJ was the most consistent player for Memphis this season and looked like a true #1 at times. KAT is still one of the best offensive players in the league and finished second in RPG this season.
FIRST TEAM ALL-DEFENSE
To me, Mobley and Draymond are the only consensus picks for the first team. Daniels is my pick for DPOY so he gets the slot. Amen makes opponents nights a living hell each and every game and can truly guard 1-4 (maybe some 5's). OKC had a historic defense and believe it or not I think JDub might be the most important piece of that defense (over the likes of Dort and Caruso).
SECOND TEAM ALL-DEFENSE
- Toumani established himself as one of the best wing defenders in the league. Jaren and Bam have consistently been some of the best defensive bigs for the last half decade or so. Zubac and Gobert are some of the best rim protectors in basketball and are the two best drop coverage centers the game has to offer.
FIRST TEAM ALL-ROOKIE
- A draft class where I am not sure there are any star players, but plenty of good role players. All five of these rookies showed me enough to where I think they will be valuable starters in the NBA for a long time.
SECOND TEAM ALL-ROOKIE
- All of these rookies showed flashes. Ultimately a lot of them did not get enough consistent chances to play more often, which is why they just missed the mark on the first team for me.
